About this practice

“The purpose of Yuan Gong practice is to better align human life with its governing laws. When we follow the laws of life, we can be healthy. The more profoundly we follow the laws, the healthier we get.” — Yuan Tze

Yuan Gong is a comprehensive Qigong system — a practice of beautiful moving and still meditations, using the body, mind, breath and Qi (energy). Its foundations rest in Chinese tradition, but western scientific and psychological findings are incorporated, so Yuan Gong is a comprehensive discipline.

Practicing Yuan Gong helps to increase mental clarity, improves internal strength and stability, and helps us understand the patterns of thought that inadvertently support negative emotions and illness.

Today you will practise Tian Yuan, the first of Yuan Gong’s nine methods. No experience is needed — the session takes about fifteen minutes, and you can practise standing or seated.

What you will learn

一How Tian Yuan moves, by watching it once through.
二The posture to settle into — feet, knees, spine, shoulders, breath.
三A complete guided session of about fifteen minutes, standing or seated.
四Where a first session leads: the course, the library, a teacher near you.

  • —Posture pointers to read before you press play.

The session

Watch how it moves

First, simply watch. Nothing to memorise — the guided audio will carry you through the movements when it is your turn.

Your browser can’t play this demonstration video — the practice audio carries the same guidance.

The demonstration — watch it once through before practising along.

Now practise along

Find a quiet spot, settle for a moment, and follow the voice from beginning to end.

Before you press play

  • FeetFlat on the floor, your weight resting evenly — standing or seated.
  • KneesSoft, never locked.
  • SpineUpright and at ease — neither slumped nor held stiff.
  • ShouldersLet them soften and drop.
  • BreathNatural and unhurried. There is nothing to force.

The state to settle into is the one Ren Xue always returns to — calm, relaxed and natural.

Where this leads

Yuan Gong unfolds through nine methods — learned gradually, each building on the last. One session is a real beginning; here is where to go from it.

Good to know

Do I need an account?
No. The session plays for anyone. If you sign in, the place you reach is kept on your account, so a morning on the phone continues on the laptop.
Is it really free?
Yes. Nothing is bought and nothing is asked for. The Foundation course and the practice recordings in the library are priced; this first session is not.
Standing or seated?
Either. The pointers above hold both ways — the weight rests evenly, the spine is at ease, the shoulders soften.
Learning it properly
These recordings support a practice; proper instruction from a qualified teacher is essential. Teachers hold weekly classes near you and online, all over the world.
